SLIM TLC® with Injectables

SLIM TLC® with Injectables Program Details

This version of SLIM TLC® is only available in Texas (if you live outside of Texas, your physician can prescribe the medicine, and recommend that you participate in SLIM TLC® without Meds).

A simple weekly subcutaneous injection could very well be the answer for which you've long been searching, taking most of the work out of weight loss.

You've likely heard of them:  Wegovy® (semaglutide) and Zepbound® (tirzepatide) – they are indeed game- (and life-) changers...

...IF you can tolerate and afford them.

Dr. Cluff, the creator of SLIM TLC®, predicts that, because of this class of medicines, called "GLP-1 (or GLP-1/GIP) RAs (receptor agonists)" (hopefully combined with SLIM TLC®), the 2020s will forever be looked back upon in history as the decade that the rise in the "diabesity" epidemic began to plummet (the far reaching effects of which can now only be imagined) – along with the rate of almost every other metabolic disease.   Together, diseases that are primarily metabolic (including heart disease, cancer, stroke, diabetes, and even Alzheimer's  disease) represent half of the top ten causes of death, and are responsible for >50% of all deaths.  We have the privilege of being grateful eyewitnesses to the unfolding of this phenomenon of disease prevention and/or reversal.

Fortunately, these medicines are FDA-approved for long-term use, so as far as we now know, you never have to stop taking them – even if/after you reach your goal (at which time you should be able to decrease the dose and frequency, thus decreasing costs).

This version of SLIM TLC® combines Wegovy® (semaglutide), a GLP-1 RA (glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonist), or Zepbound® (tirzepatide), a GLP-1/GIP (glucose-dependent insulinotropic peptide) RA, with livable Therapeutic Lifestyle Changes (TLCs).

FAQs (Frequently-Asked Questions)

How much does SLIM TLC® with Injectables cost?

  • There is a registration fee of $80 (only ages 15+ are eligible – NOTE:  Members of TLC Family Health do not pay an additional registration fee).
  • Required purchase of "TLC University's" SLIM TLC® Online textbook ("O-book"):  $19.99
  • Initial visits (one with the prescriber to initiate the medicine, and one with our nutrition coach to help set up the SLIM TLC® Map):  Included in the registration fee.  Note:  Members of TLC Family Health pay their usual visit copay.
  • Monthly cost:  $55; there are no contracts or commitments - stay with the program as long as you'd like, or change to the SLIM TLC® without Meds program whenever desired.  NOTE:  Members of TLC Family Health receive 35% off monthly costs (= $35.75/month).
  • Cost of initial and (up to) quarterly labs:  $15-20 (total, add $18-20 if testosterone is checked).
  • Cost of medicine:  $499/month*
  • Dosing of medicine:  Wegovy®:  0.25/0.5/1.0/1.7/2.4 mg;  Zepbound®:  2.5/5.0/7.5/10.0/12.5/15 mg

*Wegovy® and Zepbound® used to cost around, or more than, $1000/month, so that has been cut in half; however, you may be able to cut the cost even further if you take smaller doses.

Are there any BMI (body mass index) requirements?

  • We do not have any BMI requirements to prescribe medicines associated with SLIM TLC®.  However, the closer you are to an ideal BMI (i.e., the further below a BMI of 25, e.g., <22-23), the more we may encourage you to switch to the SLIM TLC® without Meds option.

What happens when I reach my goal weight?

  • REMEMBER that every study has shown that any weight lost with the use of any medicine (or any weight loss program, for that matter) will return as soon as the medicine (or program) is stopped, UNLESS THE NECESSARY LIFESTYLE CHANGES ARE MADE - which is why we only prescribe medicine for weight loss as part of the SLIM TLC® lifestyle and weight management program (= instruction, support, accountability, guidance, troubleshooting), to give you the highest chance of maintaining the success you have achieved.  From the beginning we try hard to teach you to follow SLIM TLC® System, which consists of the "Free Food?  Whatever!" eating strategy and our goal-setting system, the SLIM TLC® Map - which are absolutely critical to being able to wean off the medicine without regaining the weight.  CLICK HERE to learn more.  Nonetheless, you do have the option of continuing the medicine (usually at a lower or less frequent dose) to help you maintain your goal weight.

How is Wegovy® and Zepbound® administered, and how can I obtain them?

  • They are (self-) administered subcutaneously, once weekly, usually into the belly fat (after pinching it between your fingers).  Most patients learn to do it themselves, but you may have someone else administer it.  Wegovy® is prescribed to a local pharmacy (see https://www.wegovy.com/coverage-and-savings/save-on-wegovy.html) and Zepbound® is sent to a LillyDirect® self-pay pharmacy (see https://zepbound.lilly.com/coverage-savings for more information).

Might my insurance pay for the medicine?

  • Insurance rarely covers medicines for weight loss; but yours may cover it if your BMI (body mass index) is >30, or >27 if you have comorbid conditions like diabetes.

Are Wegovy® and Zepbound® safe to take long-term?

Wegovy® and Zepbound® are FDA-approved for long-term use.  However, before you decide whether or not you’d like to start taking one or the other, CAREFULLY read the Important Safety Information found HERE.  The highlights:

  • [They] may cause serious side effects, including pancreatitis (see below).  It is not known if [they] can cause thyroid tumors or a type of thyroid cancer called medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) in people.  Do not use [them] if you or any of your family have ever had MTC, or if you have an endocrine system condition called Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2).
  • Before using [them], tell us if you have any other medical conditions, including problems with your pancreas or kidneys, or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding or plan to become pregnant or breastfeed.
  • Tell us about all the medicines you take, including prescription and over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, herbal supplements, and other medicines to treat diabetes, including [and especially] insulin or sulfonylureas.
  • Possible serious side effects include inflammation of your pancreas (pancreatitis).  Stop using the medicine and seek immediate care if you have severe pain in your stomach area (abdomen) that will not go away, with or without vomiting (you may feel the pain from your abdomen to your back).
  • Stop using the medicine and get medical help right away if you have any symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, including swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat; problems breathing or swallowing; severe rash or itching; fainting or feeling dizzy; or very rapid heartbeat.
  • Be aware that muscle loss is common, but can be minimized by taking a lower dose and doing resistance exercises during your weight loss journey.
  • The most common side effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach (abdominal) pain, and constipation.  To reduce the likelihood of these side effects, try to avoid fried and greasy foods, and eat smaller and more frequent, blander meals with lots of fiber from whole grains, fruits, and vegetables (especially fruit and vegetable smoothies, and only when hungry), and stop eating when you feel full.  Eating slowly and drinking clear, cool drinks can also help.  Also, avoid artificial sweeteners, especially sugarless gum, because they produce gas, adding to stomach discomfort.  The grand majority of patients who experience nausea will find that it slowly improves over time.  Also increasing the dose of the medicine more slowly may help.  And we can always prescribe nausea medicine if needed.
  • In addition, there have been reports of gastroparesis, where your digestive system freezes up, and even suicidal thoughts.  Please inform us and seek medical care immediately if you suspect or experience these.
