WCal© is the copyrighted shorthand for "Whatever calories," i.e., calories that come from the "Whatever!" diamond (represented by the "...") of the Nutrition Star (SLIM TLC®'s nutrition guidelines). "Whatever!" consumables consist of non-whole plants or -fatty seafood based (4-Diamond or "4◊") foods or food products whose net harms we deem are greater than the benefits they provide, and include any processed plant products ("plant waste" – primarily sugar, white flour, oil, or high-fructose corn syrup), meat (other than seafood, especially fatty seafood), and animal products like eggs, dairy, and grease ("animal secretions").
Keeping track of your WCal© and logging only the extra WCal© ("XWCal") you consume (over your "Whatever! Calorie Budget") are the most critical components of SLIM TLC®'s groundbreaking "Free Food? Whatever!" (FFW) eating strategy and SLIM TLC® Map goal-setting system. We recognize that not all items classified as "Whatever!" are created equally, and that some cause more harm than others – and that you may disagree with our guidelines. The great news is that our FFW eating strategy is completely customizable, so you can benefit no matter what you consider healthy, less-healthy, or unhealthy. See our free preview of SLIM TLC® Online for more information.
SLIM TLC® Online helps you learn how to calculate or estimate the WCal© content of manufactured food/drink and menu items, by multiplying the total amount of calories by what is called the "4-Diamond Score" (AKA 4◊Score). This is a score, ranging from 0-100, representing the percentage of the item’s calories that come from whole plants (i.e., non-processed plants, still containing all the original fiber and micronutrients) and seafood, all found in the four healthy diamonds of the Nutrition Star.
See our 4◊Score Database (4◊S DB) for more information. With time and market forces we hope (expect?) that food/drink manufacturers and restaurants will label their products and menu items with the item's 4◊Score, and they will be incentivized to work hard on improving the healthiness of their products.
Food manufacturers and restaurants, take note! We invite you to post the 4◊Score on your products and menus!
